Welcome to our Istanbul Topkapi Palace Bazaar and Suleymaniye Mosque Walking Tour. Before you go exploring Istanbul, meet your guide at the entrance to Hagia Sophia to find out more about this beautiful building. As you wander the streets of the Turkish capital, learn about its history and culture.
Then, head to Topkapi Palace, which is Istanbul’s largest palace and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enter the former residence of Ottoman Sultans without waiting in line. Follow your guide through the palace’s various passageways, which were once home to a mosque, hospital, bakery, and mint. Learn about the history behind these walls, whose construction dates back to 1459 A.D. Beautiful views over the mighty Bosphorus can be seen through the windows.
The Hagia Irene is the oldest church of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine). It is in the outer courtyard of Topkapi Palace. After Hagia Sophia, it was the second-largest church in Istanbul. It is made of materials and has a design that is typical of Byzantine buildings. It was built in 330 on the site of an old temple.
Continue to the Süleymaniye Mosque, a Sinan masterpiece from the 16th century and the city’s largest mosque. Admire Islamic architecture and the magnificent interior dome surrounded by semi-domes. Your tour concludes at the Sultanahmet Center, where you may continue exploring independently.
